Director, Business Development

We are seeking a Director, Business Development that will be accountable for leading the business development and sales cycle for consulting services most relevant to mining projects in their early stages of development. The director will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and the development and maintenance of relationships with current and potential clients in the pursuit of these opportunities. You will work alongside the product specialists, developing tactical action plans and taking responsibility for driving the execution of these plans in the pursuit of multi-product revenue generation and managing the sales process from initial identification through to contract signing. You will support the operational Vice Presidents and Consulting Practice leaders by providing after sales support to clients with the aim of turning clients into repeat clients who are advocates for Ausenco.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pro-active identification of projects which are a good fit for Ausenco's product offering, culture and reputation
  • Monitoring of regional and global commodity industry and capital markets trends which influence these opportunities
  • Development and execution of account plans, in cooperation with product specialists and client facing executives within the Mining Consulting and Environmental & Sustainability business groups, focused on the pursuit of these projects
  • E stablishing and developing relationships with key stakeholders ( e.g. CEO, VP Exploration, Environmental, Social & Community, etc) in junior companies involved in early stage exploration through to the early stage development of minerals properties
  • Preparing and maintaining both long term and short-term prospect and opportunity information in Ausenco's Client Relationship Management database to support pursuits
  • Engaging with key stakeholders in Ausenco's Project Delivery and Consulting Lines of Business and influencing them to support priority pursuits and positioning [Company] to benefit from the work done in the early stages of development to remain as the incumbent for further development studies and execution
  • Active participation in region-wide business development origination and communication platforms to ensure efficient and productive coordination of efforts and client communication
  • Working with the Proposals group, ensuring the highest standard of proposals and presentations that are used throughout the sales cycle with early stage clients
  • Identifying gaps in Ausenco's service offering to early stage clients which may lead to further business opportunities
  • Cementing Ausenco's reputation as a service provider of choice in the exploration and early stage development phases of any mining project.
  • Working effectively across multiple locations, cultures, time zones and business lines
  • Travelling extensively, attending meetings and key conferences which are frequented by potential clients


  • A relevant degree in a science, engineering, finance or management discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of business development and/or investment banking or brokerage experiencein the North American mining industry with a specific focus on exploration & development companies
  • Strong network of contacts across the North American mining market spaning developers and explorers as well as financial institutions and other service industries
  • Proven capability of identifying and closing deals in the mining industry
  • Sound knowledge of the resources industry and/or the engineering/project management field
  • Understanding of the key business and project drivers for developing opportunities and project
  • Developing and executing customer/market segment strategic plans and in exceeding objectives
  • Experience in preparing and delivering Client Account Management Plans and Pursuit / Win Strategies
  • Strong commitment to team work and a willingness to involve both business leaders and key technical personnel in the sales process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to operate at the C-suite level in the industry
  • Ability to obtain and analyse relevant data in order to identify target market segments and opportunities within those market segments
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong problem analysis, technical knowledge and customer service orientation
